Everything happens for a reason

Everything Happens for a Reason: And Other Lies I've Loved is a wonderful book that narrates the personal story of the author Kate Bowler. When life seemed perfect, she was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer at 35. Her story touches on the book's title and explores the joy and suffering of living with uncertainty.

Some moments always bring the question: Do things happen for a reason?

Last weekend (25th March), we went live with the project of implementing SAP GTS Trade compliance after months of preparations. Due to unavoidable circumstances, we had to roll it back with a heavy heart. It was time to pause and ponder when I was reminded of this book, I read during Covid.

Sometimes (when it does not concern illness like cancer), believing things happen for a reason gives us a positive outlook toward life. However, most of us would agree that things happen randomly. There is no explanation. Therefore, even though "do things happen for a reason?" keeps coming up, I think it is irrelevant.

Coming to our project, after reflection, we realized we could do many things better now, and it was time to make a fresh start.

One of the program managers with whom I worked on many projects used to say, "Be it Sap project or any other project, always be prepared to expect the unexpected."
