Safety is a state of mind without which life can become a candle in the wind.

The memory of a recent tragic accident is still fresh in my mind. This is not about my personal story but about the lesson learned from the incident, which is universal.

Earlier this month, Cyrus Mistry, an Indian billionaire industrialist, died in a road accident in Mumbai. He was sitting in the back seat of the Mercedes but without a seat belt. Many experts believe that had he worn seat belts, he would have been alive today.

In many states in the US and many countries, the law does not enforce wearing a seat belt for backseat passengers. The critical point is not about enforcement of compliance by any law or regulatory body; it is about being aware and making a choice to be safe.

Life is about choices, and with one wrong choice about safety, many regrets forever.
